Recording update: we need some 5 hour energy for Castro
So we got all the drum tracks down. Castro did about three to five takes after doing two or three scratch tracks for each song after which the old man looked like he needed his Ensure and a nap. On Saturday Josh laid down a tight bass line for Wicked Games but was in a cranky mood as it was the end of the day. I think he needed his blankie.
Coming up next Sunday we’ll try to lay down the guitar and bass tracks. I don’t know when vocals come in yet. Josh and I both dropped off our instruments at Chicago Guitar and Amplifier to be set up by Chad Fitzpatrick so everything is good to go by Sunday.
For my guitar equipment I just modded my Ibanez tube screamer. I replaced the 75558 chip in it for a JRC4558D which is the original chip used in tube screamers. I replaced one of the silicon clipping diodes with a LED to give it some more headroom and to get asymmetrical clipping and I’m going to put another LED in series with the remaining silicon diode. I also replaced a resistor in the clipping stage to get more clean headroom and more bass. It sounds really good and I can’t wait to use it in the studio. Matt Brashinger at Chicago Guitar and Amplifier did a quick mod on my JCM 800 to take some of the bite off it (he took out a cap on the low input of the amp).
